Carolina Gopher Frog, Lithobates capito is Georgia's rarest frog, with only a few remaining populations left in the state. We have been working with collaborators at Zoo Atlanta, UGA, Jones Ecological Research Center and GA DNR to head-start Gopher Frogs for the past 7 years. Each year, eggs are collected, hatched and raised through metamorphosis. Then, they are released into perfected habitat in south Georgia. The Gopher Froglet pictured here will be taken to the release site tomorrow morning. Hundreds of young Gopher Frogs have been released this year. #amphibianconservation #headstart #head-start #lithobatescapito #Ranidae #gopherfrog
